If you're a working person but desires to own a dog, and if you have limited time to stay at home, it is essential that you understand that not every dog can stay alone for a long time without any human presence. Dogs in this category, have high separation anxiety. However, there are some dog breeds with the natural capacity to stay alone for the whole time you will be spending at work. These category of dogs, while also relishing human presence, tend to exhibit independent disposition and so can stay alone for long without the usual barking and whining or chewing the furniture and other items which is characteristic of breeds with high separation anxiety. Below are dog breeds you may consider bringing to your home if you're not going to be spending so much time at home due to your professional engagement.

Greyhound
Although they love their owners, they do not build so much bonding  that can make leaving them alone a big task. Greyhounds find it easier to relax on their own while most the time taking a nap. They're usually large in size. When they are young, they need you to walk them daily on a leash for a long distance. But as they're aging, they do not require so much activity.



Lhasa Apso

The Lhasa Apso is a smallish dog that is lavishly coated in furs. It has its origin in Tibet. Over a thousand years ago, its ancestors were used to guide isolated temples and monasteries. Despite its smallish stature, it is fearless, bold and very energetic. This little dog is very independent and can be left alone. It is a good option for anyone that wouldn't be staying at home for an extended period of the day.

Basset Hound
The Basset Hound is a short-legged breed of dog originally used to hunt small animals such as hare. It is a friendly, affectionate and gentle breed. It has a reputation to be inactive and to sleep for long periods of the day. Although it requires some level of attention, the Bassett Hound can afford to stay alone.


Maltese
The Maltese is a toy breed with a fluffy white coat and ears that are somewhat hanging. It originated from South Central Europe and got its name from Malta. It is loving, adorable, playful and easygoing. Despite these features, the Maltese exhibit a bold and fearless character. It doesn't crave for attention but will always bark to alert you of any unfamiliar sight. The Maltese is among the breeds of dogs you may consider getting if your time at home is limited.



Shiba Inu
This breed originates from Japan and was basically used for hunting. It can grow from small to medium size. It is very alert and has the natural capacity to survive difficult terrains. It exhibits independent character and do not bond so much with its owner such that you may begin view him as stubborn. This dog is independent and can stay alone.

Standard poodle
The Standard poodle breed is  gentle, smart, energetic and athletic and full of elegance. He's very responsive to training and requires mental and physical stimulation to be at the top of his game. Although this dog may require some level of human attention, he can be left alone but not for too long.


Pug
The Pug breed is a short and stoicky ancient breed which originated from China. He's very affectionate and tries so hard to be loyal to his owner. They are ideal for the house due to their calm disposition. They do not require much exercises but are highly intelligent. Because of their stable temperament, they can afford to stay alone.

Japanese Chin

The Japanese Chin was bred to be a companion dog. It is very adaptable. Sleep most of the period you are away and is able cope without human presence. Only ensure there is enough food and water for his consumption while you're away.

Bernese Mountain Dog

This dog originated from Switzerland and was originally bred to herd cattles and to pull carts. As a working dog, it has an enormous large body size but, surprisingly, it has a calm disposition and does not require so much activity. The Bernese is very intelligent and responsive to training. A lover of space due to his large size. If you have a large house, this dog is good for you.
