Dog breeds that have separation anxiety

One of the things that accounts for why a dog may bark and whine and pace continuously when left alone is separation anxiety. Separation anxiety is a mental state in which a dog begins to feel stressed and afraid anytime he is left to stay alone.  Dogs that suffer from separation anxiety will normally have destructive behaviour as a result of stress and anxiety. If you are a dog lover who doesn't have the time to stay with your dog because of your work, but plan to purchase or adopt a furry friend, it is essential that you consider getting a dog with low separation anxiety that you can leave alone at home and still be sure to meet your furniture and other items in good order.

The followings are some dog breeds with high separation anxiety. However, note that the list is not limited to the ones listed below.

1. Labrador retriever. While being a good companion, the Labrador retriever has high temperament and has the tendency to suffer from separation anxiety if left alone. Being one of the most popular family breeds, the Labrador retriever is very sociable. And so leaving him alone for long can put him in bad behaviour.

2. The Border Collie. One of the smartest and most intelligent dogs  are the Border Collies. They function best when mentally stimulated through trainings and commands. And so when you're away, they easily become bored. The Border Collie is also very energetic and acrobatic. They are mostly used to herd livestock especially sheep. It follows, therefore, that a dog with such bundle of energy will find it extremely difficult to stay idle without the usual separation anxiety that comes with being idle and alone.

3.Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. These are small, gentle and affectionate dog breds used mainly as companion dogs that like to spend time with their owners. Naturally, if they are left alone for long, they suffer separation anxiety and will offload their anxiety through barking, whining and other anxious behaviours.

4. German Shepherd. The German Shepherd is a working dog full of agility whose origin is in Germany. They can grow from medium to large in size and have high temperament. They are also used to herd sheep. Being very energetic, they hate to stay without the necessary mental and physical activities required to keep them alert. Left alone, they are bound to suffer from separation anxiety.

5. Jack Russell Terrier. Although small in size, Jack Russell Terrier breed are energetic working dogs that are popular with horse owners and dog sports enthusiasts. They are lively, intelligent, friendly and entertaining. These little dogs can become problematic when there is no one around to keep them engaged.

6. Australian Shepherd. This breed of dog is mainly for herding. They are active, intelligent and friendly and are at their best when at work. If they are left alone and inactive, they will suffer separation anxiety.

7. Vizsla. Visla is a Hungarian breed which is mainly used for hunting. They are very active and sociable. If left alone and inactive for a long time, they become distressed and anxious.

8. Bichon Frise. They are small silky white dogs bred to serve as  companions. They are playful, cheerful, gentle and loving and always want to be around their owners. Leaving them on their own for long will be very distressing to them.

9. German Shorthaired Pointer. This is a German dog bred mainly for the purpose of hunting. They are very active and full of agility and can grow from medium to large in size. Because they are very active naturally and are bred to hunt with humans, they will suffer separation anxiety if left without human presence.

10. Toy Poodle. This breed, although small in size, is graceful, extremely intelligent, smart and friendly and easily trained. They are mainly companion dogs with gentle temperament. They always need love and attention from their owners. A Toy Poodle will not hesitate to become distressed if left on his own.
