Taking a watchful eye on your pet is an essential part of pet parenting. There may be some usual behaviors that your dog exhibit which may seem normal to you but may be indicators to some serious ailments. Here is when to tell if all is not well with your dog.
Constant
vomiting
Animals generally may vomit due to the need to get rid of something they ate that didn’t get down well with them. Therefore, vomiting is not unusual.
But if it becomes severe, it should give you cause for concern. It is essential
that you call your vet if it becomes intermittent in order to avoid dehydration
or diarrhea.
Bad
Breadth
Even though dogs don’t have minty fresh breadth, when the breadth
becomes terribly bad, it is a sign your dog is sick and in danger. The bacteria
causing bad breadth may find its way through the nasal passages to cause the
dog respiratory problems. Moreover, if the bacteria comes in contact with the
blood stream, it will damage either the heart, liver or kidney. To avoid this
havoc from happening, give your dog daily brushing and also give him toys or
treats that are made for dental hygiene.
Outer
ear problems
Outer ear problems should never be neglected. If left untreated, it may contact
infections and developed into a more serious ear problem that can lead to
hearing loss. Outer ear problems have the following symptoms such as, discharges,
redness, dropping ear and bad odor. When you notice these in your dog’s ear, it is
essential that you visit a vet.
Swollen
in the gum
A good percentage of dogs over the age of 3 experience dental problems
caused by bacteria. Food particles not properly cleaned from the dog’s gum can
come in contact with bacteria which will result in inflammation and plaque and,
by extension, lead to tooth loss if not properly treated. So take action, see
your vet whenever you notice any swollen in your dog’s gum. But better still, ensure you give him daily dental hygiene to avoid all these.
Overweight
Being overweight can lead to obesity which can further lead to medical
complications such as kidney diseases, cancer and diabetes. So avoid food that are
capable of making your dog overweight and ensure that you give him enough
exercise.
Cloudy
Eyes
A cloudy eye indicates that your dog may be developing cataracts which
could eventually lead to blindness if not properly taken care of. A cloudy eye
may also be an indicator of diabetes especially if the dog resorts to much
drinking of water and urinating quite often. However, if your dog is old, a
cloudy eye should not be a cause to worry about. It is an indication that he is
suffering from nuclear sclerosis which is a kind of cataract that affects the nucleus of the eye and which, fortunately, does not lead to blindness.
Continuous
chasing of his tail
You may at one time have noticed a dog running in circles, continuously chasing his
tail. This is an indication that the dog has an inner ear infection known as
labyrinthitis. This ailment causes the dog to lose his posture, balance and coordination
and to become dizzy oftentimes. In older dogs, however, this loss of posture
and balance is the result of a disease known as idiopathic vestibular syndrome,
a disease which cause is unknown and can make the dog very dizzy. In both
cases, it is important to consult your vet.
Continuous
sneezing
Sneezing is a way in which both humans and animals try to clear up their
nasal passages when they have allergies. However, watch out to see if the mucus
coming out from your dog is gray and cloudy or it is thick and green or bloody.
If you notice any of these signs, your dog may have a fungal infection or a
nasal cancer. Consult with your vet to confirm this through a diagnosis.
Sudden
loss of weight
Sudden weight of loss is also an indication of a severe health condition and should prompt you to call your vet.
Constant
Stooling
