7 ways cats show affection to their owners

Cats show affection to people they are closed to, demonstrating it through body languages, postures and vocalization. Cats are quite subtle naturally and so the way and manner they demonstrate love towards humans are not loud and boisterous, unlike dogs. And because of this subtle nature of cats, people tend to misunderstand this love gestures and sometimes overlook them. Unlike dogs, cats do not wag their tails or kiss all over when they are being passionate towards their owners. Instead, cats show affection through some kind of whisper. But be that as it may, you will understand this demonstration of love and affection if you take time to study cat’s mannerisms. The aim of this article is to show you some of those body languages of the cat that are indicators of love and affection.

1. The first indicator of how cats show affection to their owners is the blinking of the eyes. When your cat looks at you with a half-closed eye, she is letting you know that she trusts you and enjoys your company. This blinking of the eyes by the cat is called “cat kisses” The way to reciprocate is to give her cat kisses in return. By giving you a cat kiss, your cat is letting you know that she is relaxed, contented and happy with you and that you have her trust.

2. Cats also demonstrate love and affection by rubbing their cheeks on their owners. By doing so, the cat is expressing that she trusts and feels safe with you. Cheek rubbing is also a way by which cats stamp ownership. By rubbing their scent gland, called pheromones, on you, your cat is claiming that you’re her own, indicating that other animals should stay clear off you because you are her own.

3. One more way that cats demonstrate love is via head butting. Like cheek rubbing, head butting serves the same purpose. It shows trust and friendship and it is another way by which your cat marks you as her own through mingling her scent and yours.

4. Cats also demonstrate affection through sounds which are sometimes called cat language. Cats chirrs, chirps, purrs and mews. All these cat sounds are ways cats communicate and they, often times, indicate trust and endearing emotions towards you.

5. Anytime your cat curls up in your lap while you are sitting or on the bed, it is another indication of her love for you. And like all cat’s mannerisms, your cat is demonstrating her trust and contentment.

6. You might also have noticed that sometimes your cat walks around the house with her tail raised straight up in the air with the tip of her tail curved or twisted. This is another sign your cat is showing you love. Whenever your cat walks up to greet you with her tail raised, the cat is being grateful to you for staying home with her.

7. Cats also demonstrate affection by showing you her tummy. It is not all the time that cat voluntarily show her tummy. But if your cat gets closed to you and lays down on her back, thereby displaying her tummy for you to see, it shows that the cat is full of appreciation and feels safe with you. So next time you notice your cat besides you with a displayed tummy, you can be sure she is feeling affectionate towards you.
